Founded in 1910, the 52-acre Brooklyn Botanic Garden is located near the Brooklyn Museum. Home to over 14,000 kinds specimens from all over the world, special gardens highlight various types of plants, with the botanic garden collections housed both indoors and out. Information about what's currently in bloom, suggested itineraries based on the time of the year, and a map of the grounds are available on the website. There is an art gallery, a small café, and gift store on the premises.

Adopting the nickname given an area of Long Island home to a number of historic flights, this museum has eight galleries chronicling over 100 years of aerospace history. The collection includes 75 air and spacecraft—of special note, an actual Apollo Lunar Module—and a digital planetarium, which doubles as an IMAX theatre. There are over 30 hands-on exhibits, a half dozen cockpits to climb into, and many short films throughout the exhibits. There is a gift shop and café on the premises. The Nassau County Firefighter's Museum and Education Center may be also found within the same building.

The Garvies Point Museum & Preserve is located along Hempstead Harbor on the North Shore of Long Island. The museum features dioramas, permanent exhibits, and educational programs devoted to regional geology and Native-American archaeology. Changing exhibits cover a variety of natural history subjects. The preserve consists of 62 acres of glacial moraine covered by forests, thickets and meadows, through which are miles of marked trails, including some for the blind. The Garvies Point Museum & Preserve pass admits 4 adults/teens (13 years of age and older) OR 2 adults/teens & up to 4 children (5 - 12 years of age). Children under 5 years of age are always free. Any additional patrons must pay the regular museum admission: $5 adult/teen and $3/children 5-12 years of age. Craft fees are not covered by the pass.

Free entry to our major events: Geology Day (Saturday February 24), Dinosaur Daze (Saturday April 6 and Sunday April 7), Garvies Point Museum Day (Saturday August 3) and our Native American Festival (weekend before Thanksgiving).

Harbes Barnyard Adventure is the 8-acre area of the Harbes Family Farm in Mattituck, NY open to visitors. Attractions include a number of hands-on learning experiences, such as interactions with farm animals and a chick observatory. There are also games for all ages, including the Gnome Hedge Maze, Jumbo Jumpers Bounce Pillows, Goat Mountain Slides, a Trike Track, a sports zone, and playgrounds, among others. Pig races and musical hayride tours take place on selected weekends, holidays, and summer Fridays—check the website to see schedule.

PASS VALID FOR FOUR (4) FREE ADMISSIONS: Library pass guests receive admission for four guests (4) to Harbes Barnyard Adventure (715 Sound Ave, Mattituck) during the course of our 2023 season (more info below). The library pass cannot be used at any other Harbes locations. Children 2 and under are FREE and would not count as a library pass admission.

REDEEMING: PASS IS VALID ONLY FOR DATE RESERVED. Library pass guests MUST have a printed copy of their print-on-demand pass OR they will be required to show a digital version of the pass to an admission cashier at check-in. We also need to see a valid photo ID. The name on the ID must match the name on the reserved pass.

2023 SEASON: The season runs from May 12th through November 5th with a blackout period on Columbus Day Weekend (Oct. 7, 8 & 9). Library passes cannot be used during blackout dates. Please check with the farm prior to visiting for unexpected closings or delayed openings.

OTHER RULES: No outside food permitted. No pets allowed.

The museum, which opened in 1994 on the grounds of the former Pratt estate in Glen Cove, NY, presents a detailed and comprehensive chronicle of the Holocaust in six galleries, using multimedia displays, photographs, artifacts, archival footage, and testimonies from local Survivors and Liberators. The Children's Memorial Garden, based on a design by the Olmsted brothers, memorializes the 1.5 million Jewish children murdered during the Holocaust and to all children who died during World War II. On the premises is the Louis Posner Memorial Library, open to the public by appointment only.

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located on the Hudson River in Manhattan, features the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, some of the world's fastest jets, and a guided missile submarine. The ship is now a National Historic Landmark, having served tours of duty in World War II and the Vietnam War, and acted as a recovery vessel for the Gemini and Mercury space missions. In addition to more than two dozen authentically restored aircraft, the museum includes the Exploreum Interactive Hall, an interactive exhibit space; an 18,000 sq. ft. education center; “Growler,” the only American diesel-powered strategic missile submarine open to the public; and Pier 86.

Located in a former airplane hanger at Garden City, NY's “Museum Row,” the Long Island Children's Museum offers 14 interactive exhibits, plus live theater, art spaces and daily activities. Permanent and seasonal exhibits include a climbing sculpture, the Pattern Studio, “Broken? Fix it!,” live animal habitats and an Animal Diner, the Communication Station, “Sound Showers,” and “Bubbles,” among others. Located in midtown Manhattan, The Museum of Modern Art was founded in 1929 to collect and display “Modern” art, focusing primarily on Europe and North America. The Nassau County Museum of Art is located on the grounds of the former 145-acre Frick Estate in Roslyn Harbor, NY. The museum presents rotating exhibitions in its Georgian-style mansion that anchors the institution. In addition, there a sculpture garden, formal garden, and walking trails on the property. The permanent collection of more than 600 pieces is focused on 19th and 20th century American and European art. These include works by Pierre Bonnard, Auguste Rodin, Édouard Vuillard, Chaim Gross, Moses Soyer, Larry Rivers, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella, and George Segal. Among the artists represented in the sculpture garden are Fernando Botero, Richard Serra, Mark DiSuvero, and Tom Otterness. The museum is accessible to all visitors and is equipped with both ramps and an elevator. Sensory tool kits designed to provide a multi-sensory museum experience for people with ASD and their families & caregivers are available at the admission desk.

Originally a pavilion at the 1964-65 World's Fair, the New York Hall of Science is a museum dedicated to demystifying science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for visitors of all ages. Old Westbury Gardens, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the site of Westbury House. The Charles II-style mansion, built in 1906 and furnished with fine English antiques, decorative arts, and art from the time of the original family in residence—including a John Singer Sargent painting—is open for self-guided tours. The grounds include 200 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes. There is a café on the premises.

Built in 1738, Raynham Hall is now a museum dedicated to telling the story of the Townsend family who occupied the house for decades, the lives of those they enslaved, the Revolutionary War, and the Culper Spy Ring. Though many additions were made to the building over the years, the front was restored to its original 18th century proportions in the 1950s. The museum—listed on the National Register of Historic Places—has an exhibition hall and many period rooms detailing daily life in the 18th and 19th centuries, including restored 19th century servants' quarters. It sits on two-thirds of an acre in the heart of Oyster Bay, which include gardens with historically accurate plantings that represent two historical periods connected to the life of the house—the Colonial and Victorian.

The Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium sits on the 43-acre grounds of an estate formerly belonging to William Vanderbilt II, who donated the property with the stipulation that it be used to display his collections. In addition to the 24-room Spanish revival mansion famous for its iron work which was built in the early part of the 20th century, now containing art and period furnishings, the complex includes buildings displaying the marine and natural history specimens and ethnographic objects collected on travels around the world, a one-mile nature trail, a learning center, and a planetarium which was added in 1971. There is a gift shop on the premises. To tour the mansion or see the show in the Planetarium requires an extra fee.

The Whaling Museum in Cold Spring Harbor is dedicated to the art, science, history & culture of Long Island's whaling heritage. It is home to over 6,000 artifacts, including whalecraft, ship gear, and navigational aids; ship logs, journals, and local records; models of whaling ships; and paintings, lithographs, daguerreotypes, and photographs. A 19th century whaleboat with original gear, scrimshaw and whalebone art, a diorama of Cold Spring Harbor (circa 1850), and the exhibits “Thar She Blows: Whaling History on Long Island” and “If I Were a Whaler” are permanently on display. Special, temporary exhibits examine various aspects of whaling history and its connection to the community around the museum. The Museum is accessible to visitors who use wheelchairs.
